Thank you to author and illustrator Vera Brosgol for venturing around Frederick with us yesterday! Vera visited several local schools and discussed her latest graphic novel that came out just yesterday, Plain Jane and the Mermaid! Then, we held a public author talk and signing at Thurmont Regional Library. Signed copies of Plain Jane and the Mermaid are available in-store for those who could not attend.

Remember the book drive we did!? Last Thursday, picture book creators Adam Rubin and Liniers visited a local Title I school to give a presentation about their new book The Truth About the Couch. They talked about how they created it and what it’s like to be in the book industry. In the end, they announced that each child would get a free signed copy to take home, and hearing the joy and excitement from the kids is priceless! Once again, thank you to ALL who helped fund our book drive, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Did you know today is the first day of Children’s Book Week!?
Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Over 2,300 schools, libraries, and bookstores are celebrating Children’s Book Week from May 6 to May 12 from coast to coast in all 50 states.

To celebrate here at the Iguana, we have a reading challenge coloring sheet for ages 2-12! Pick up a free reading challenge sheet from May 6- May 12 in-store and turn in your completed challenge by May 31 to be entered for a chance to win a Curious Iguana gift card!
